07/16/2004: "Terror in the Sky redux?"
Via Lileks, a chilling tale, complete with a plausible mid air bombing and government bungling.
This is scary. I'd like to hear from anyone who thinks John Kerry would address the situation.
Addendum-----------------------------------------------------------------
It seems the suispicious characters were not preparing to build a bomb. Still, the authorities did not react well.

Kerry doesn't have the complications of "what would dad do" or "how does this affect our Arab family friends," making it easier to address the terrorism itself rather than outside connections. Furthermore, Bush seems to rely on his advisors, so perhaps we should be comparing Kerry to Ashcroft, Rumsfeld, or Ridge on this issue.

I'm not sure it's fair to use Bush 41's behavior to predict Bush 43's Behavior. The younger Bush has done enough on his own both as Governor and as President to be judged on his own merits. I do agree that the current president can be judged, in part, on his cabinet. And we know what the Bush administration is doing about these onerous rules which allow the building of bombs on airplanes. It continues to permit rules which prohibit seemingly racial profiling. My unsubstantiated instinct is that a Kerry administration would be no better. I doubt that President Kerry would oversee the dismantling of racial profiling laws. I find it more likely that a Kerry administration would make the laws more difficult to follow, and make it more difficult to stop a band of foreigners from blowing up an airplane. So my poorly asked question stands. Would a Kerry administration improve this situation?
